Substance Use

 
A high-priority subgroup working on measures related to the use of substances other than tobacco, with an initial focus on cannabis and opioids  
 

Ontario Public Health Standards Coverage

Substance Use is named in the Substance Use and Injury Prevention, Chronic Disease Prevention and Wellness; and School Health program standards; it is defined as the use of tobacco, e-cigarettes, alcohol, cannabis, opioids, illicit, other substances and emerging products.  For the Core Indicators project, the Substance Use subgroup covers all substances except tobacco, which includes the following topic areas: Use of Alcohol; Use of Cannabis and Emerging Products; Use of Opioids, Illicit and Other Substances; and Harm Reduction.  
 

    Subgroup Milestones:

  • Formed in September 2009, as Injury and Substance Misuse. 
  • Closed in 2016.  
  • In 2018, the Injuries subgroup was created by splitting the previous Injury and Substance Misuse subgroup.  

Recruitment

We are seeking volunteers to build a new subgroup, if you are interested please sign-up here.
Subgroups typically meet every two months by teleconference, with indicator development activities (researching, drafting, and reviewing) taking place between meetings.
